Just pre-ordered one of these on provantage (need a card ASAP new build using z68 graphics until I get a gfx card), only specs are as follows:

Radeon HD 7970 3GB DDR5 HDMI DVI 1000MHZ Dual Mini DP Black Ed

Seems to be a bit tamer than the sapphire models... and the "black edition" is supposed to be their top of the line model (no?). Thought it may add some substance to the sapphire stuff being misdirection/etc - although I hope it's not!

They are all reference cards so you will probably be able to flash a sapphire bios onto your card. Congrats on the preorder. Also double lifetime warranty FTW

For some products XFX makes more than one "Black Edition" or "XXX" model because they refresh the lineup over the course of it's life. The models you'll find at release have the lowest speed bumps over reference.

XFX 7970 overclocked customized card on its way for evaluation right now....

how customized? aftermarket cooler? ports? non-reference pcb?

If I hear about proper ports (3+ DP/miniDP) on a single card I'll be cancelling this order in hopes of getting one of them. Otherwise I'll put up with the tearing issue until the 7990 is released and trifire this one with it to run my displays.

What about 'Alpha Dog' edition? :D

EDIT: Wow, they've done well in the aesthetics department if nothing else:

Is this confirmed what this card from XFX will look like?
Dual fan is what i'm wanting from my 7970

If these pictures are correct, this is NOT a reference card design, so it would be doubtful it will have a dual BIOS.

That's the thing I don't like about the non-reference design cards. Yes the cooling may be better, but the components are generally cheaper and the PCB is different........makes it hard to find a good watercooler.

Order was cancelled this morning by provantage. Back in line with everyone else.

Will probably try to get one on amazon to save on overnight shipping, or make the hour drive to microcenter(do they usually have stock on launch?)

Did they give you a reason?
Kind of sucks.:(

Guessing with the number of orders they've gotten, there's no way they'll be able to fill them with the quantities they've been promised. They're the only somewhat reputable seller that's got 7970s on their site for anything close to MSRP.

This was the email, ofc it's not discontinued just no stock or something

Maybe the mildly overclocked SKU was really cancelled and replaced with the OMG overclocked variant. :D

Im pretty much done with XFX cards. I've had 3 die on me and the last one was a reference 5870 that got replaced with the Bag-of-crap non reference one that literally was less than half the weight (shitty cooler) , the pcb felt flimsy, no adjustable voltage regulation, etc, etc. I was pretty p.o.ed. Anyhow, the double lifetime warranty to me isn't important. I'm happy with a 3 year that doesn't require registration.

i missed that, what happened with EVGA? other than they dont do Radeon anymore...

Well there were/are a couple of things.......

First, a number of years ago, evga put out a GPU with some kind of cheap-ass metal shroud around it and called it the most fabulous heat sink-cooler ever.
[H] called them on it, the card was no better than or worse than a stock cooler, and cost more.
EVGA made some big deal over it.

Secondly, [H]ardFolding was the number one folder in the world for a long, long time........EVGA decided to challenge that, which on it's face is fine; but to lure folders to their group EVGA began to offer premiums to do so......ie, points you can exchange for purchase of goods they sell, contests with prizes, you get the picture. They did that obviously because they sell components.

[H]Folding has always been about the community of enthusiasts and using your hobby to better research.......EVGA dirtied the water with their "swag for points" approach.....something [H] folding does not nor will do, unless sponsored by the folders themselves...........:)...... but it worked, and EVGA is indeed number one now.
