I ordered my computer today and i went with a 754 3400+ as opposed to a 939.
Tell me how i did. I'm not a hardcore gamer, rarely played any games for 2 years until i got world of warcraft. I browse forums and shit.

Case: Antec Sonata with 380W PSU - 99$
Motherboard: Chaintech Nforce3 754 - 74$
CPU: AMD 3400+ - 226$
RAM: Corsair 3200 Value Select - 145$
Grahics Card: Leadtek 6600GT APG - 216$
Optical Drive: Samsung DVD/CD-RW - 36$
Hard Drive: Seagate 160gb SATA - 110$
Floppy Drive: Samsung Floppy - 8$
Monitor: Viewera 17" LCD (no dead pixel policy) - 254$
Keyboard & Mouse: Logitech MX duo - 60$
Speakers: Logitech X-230 - 39$

Total: 1267$
Shipping: 30$
Final Total: 1297$

I think i did a pretty good job with the budget i had (1300$). A nice 17" LCD, 3400+, 6600GT, 160gb hdd, nice keyboard and case. Does anyone else think so? I'm not really a computer expert, i used to know more a few years back so i think i can piece it togethor pretty well.

It'll be nice for WoW and as long as you're not a "gamer" you shouldn't really have to worry about s754 being phased out so you don't need to replace anything.

That'll be great for WoW and similar games.

I noticed a big performace boost going from my Athlon XP overclocked at 2.2GHz to my Athlon 64 clocked stock at 2.0GHz even before I overclocked the A64. WoW really demands a lot from your CPU.

Looks like you're about to have some fun. :)

That looks like a nice system. Everything you need for under 1300. Would you let me know how that lcd works out? I'm in the market for one.

NP. I'll let you know.

I have like 2 year old artic silver 3. I was wondering if i could use that for mounting my HS? Does any paste come with the retail box of a 3400+?

Thanks

If you got a retail CPU, the HSF will come with a thermal pad that works fine for no/very small overclocks.

It's not paste, its more like a pad kinda deal...and it sucks...trust me. Playing farcry made my temps reach 60c. I suggest you AT LEAST get some good thermal paste, but would strongly recomend a new HSF. I speak from experince(see sig) Just my $00.02

Thanks. I was wondering if 2 year old Arctic Silver 3 would \ should be usable. I'll just stick with the pads.

Hmm, I wouldnt recomend it though. If you have some kind of computer shop in town I would recomend going to get some paste. I dont know much about AS...so I dont know if it would still be good...but I do know that that pad sucks...but it's up to you either way. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new system! :D

I've used older AS3 on builds, it should work just fine, but 3g of AS5 isn't *that* expensive, so why not just pick some of that up?

Great LCD! No dead pixels, sleek. Recommend 100%. No ghosting either.
