Optical drives dont work

i have nforce2 chipset mb and either of my optical drives work. they show in the bios during post and they show in the windows xp device mger. they yellow !! on them. all drives updated and the jumpers are correct on the drives.

are they ide or sata, what exact motherboard do you have?

is it the one in your sig?

they are ide. its not my pc, its a gigabyte nforce2 mb (ga-7n400s) they show up in the device manager but they have the yellow (!) mark next to them. they do show up in the bios on post and i can boot to an xp cd on either drive. the nforce drivers are up to date. also i have a ide hdd in the system that work fine on both ide channels. i tried just one rom drive on either channel and it still wouldnt work.
