I have gotten the nod.

Back story:

I have a cousin that will be a Jr is HS next year. He has wanted a "Gaming Computer" for a long time now. If He got good grades he could get it. Well he has come to collect. He has to buy the OS but I'm giving him the parts (as long as he folds) He is going to get the guts of the wife boxen. It's a AM2 5200X2 with a 8800GS. That should play most games just fine a mid rez.

Now I have the chance to cram a bunch of stuff into the wifes machine :D

I'm looking at this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138123R

and this with a 50 buck amazon gift card:

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Celeron...3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1222739685&sr=1-3

That proc should run 2 4850's no problem right ;)

Ohh and am I going to fry the EA 430 that is in the box?

I will probably do this in steps (getting one of the 4850's after he comes up with the $$ for the OS and I give him the box, and getting the 2nd later.)

Just wanted you opinions on this. Probably not going to buy right now.... just wanted to feel out options and hash stuff out. It will happen bit how much and how fast depends on if I get my bonus. (If I get bonus I might give wife my rig and get a new box that can run 4x cards , that will only cost about 1/4 of the bonus after tax if I do it right)

I want to go ATI on the cards because I have so many NV cards already, and if we see a reset like we did last month I want to have a mix.

Dunno about the other stuff, but that mobo is one of the best if not the best overclocking P45 boards, its a good buy.

That processor should easly run 4 GPU2's (2 off each core) but you only have 2 PCI-e slots. You could run 2 9800gx2's on it.

I already have 2x 9800GX2s running on a E2140 in the basement ;)

I want some ATI flava

Oh, mis-read the thread title.

Thought he wanted to up grade his willy..............;)

I am waiting to here some folding numbers on these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161252

Based on the raw data, should run around the same speed as the HD 3870 or HD 3850.
(Don't know what Memory Interface 256-bit vs Memory Interface 128-bit will do )

Power Draw is very very good. Max 59W vs 110w -4850 vs 150w -4870.
ATM, client won't run on on new cards, but that is being worked on now ...

Keeps your eyes open and let me know if you find some numbers before I do!

For 50 bucks you pick up a bunch more stream procs on a 4850.

I'd have to think if you could spare it, the 4850 is the better deal.

I thoughth he was looking to upgrade his wife... YIKES!

In the long run... it's much cheaper to upgrade video cards. Not to mention you'll have a lot less grief sitting and watching a 4850 fold... ;)
