My notebook came with a "recovery partition". If someone unloaded a vm rootkit on my machine, Do I need to hose everything including the recovery partition with zero writes? or can I get away with just letting the recovery partition reload the harddrive to "factory" condition?

I still don't secure. I've just notice on this lap top, norton virus won't stay checked on "LIVEUPDATE ON" Every time i log on I need to manually check the box.

suspecious.

I can't believe how vulnerable our computers are. there goes my torrent downloading days.

my gut instincts never failed me.

my suspicion is leaning toward a rootkit that acts like a virtual machine sitting between the hardwares and OS' that explains it's platform independentness. anyways, i put zeros in the bootsector on my main machine and it seems to be fine so far.

i'm just concerned abvout this winxp lappy for the time being. hence the question.
