Hey I got a question for hard forums and I would appreciate your advice. I plan on buying crimp sata power connectors from frozencpu.com along with some uv sleeving. My plan Is to use cable from an old power supply to make one long custom cable for my antec 1200. I was thinking of putting 12 connectors on the 1 wire. Is there any negative to this? Would the guage of the wire be sufficient enough to power. 12 devices if I were to hook them all up? Thanks for any advice...

Edit: power supply is corsair tx750

Well, the Corsair TX750 is a single 12v rail PSU, so it should be fine with that much load on a single lead.

But your question of that much juice flowing through one wire is interesting and something I do not know. What hardware would be drawing from that lead?

/edit: the table at the bottom of this page may be of interest:

a power supply cables is 16 guage (correct me if im wrong). If i were to make the cable 5 feet feet long, the maximum output of the cable would be 240 and with 3 feet the max output would be 300 watts. So if i have 12 devices, each pulling 25 watts (according to power supply calculators) I would require 300 watts. So if my cable is 3' long i should be alright, but im not since i would probably be around 5 feet once you add in the length of the actual power supply cable i'll be plugging my adapter into. So in theory then the maximum devices i could put onto one cable is 9. Which is ok for my situation because ill just make a serperate cable for the dvd drive :D

thanks alot for that chart, it was the peice of info i needed

Or, make a "custom" cable from 14ag wire.

Actually, do HDD's even make use of the 3 and 5v lines? If they are 12v only, this can be done real easily.

i would just use a larger guage wire, but the crimp power connectors i bought probably will only work with 16 ga, however i will try it with larger cable when i receive them

I just bought like a 100 foot of 16 guage wire at radioshak last night for like 5.99 + tax (may of been 75 foot. )

I bought a couple 20 packs of assorted LEDs too, and it came to like 12 bucks total.. I know the LEDs don't intrest you, but the wire at radioshak actually isn't bad. just a heads up.
