I remember when the BP6 came out... people were pulling the same crap with that, saying their 2x 550MHz Celerons were a 1100MHz computer. It's still lies... besides, 1+1 doesn't equal 2 in the cpu core version of math... at least not from an overall system performance viewpoint.

Though Apple thinks 2 cores = 2x one core... it's all about what benchmark you run.
 
I've never actually used ebay yet, just becouse of stuff like this. My wife on the other hand buys stuff off of half.com, which I believe is a spinoff of ebay, she says she never had a problem with it.

Yea, its not technically 7ghz, but he does clearly state that it is a Pentium D 920 and that it is a dual core running at 2x3.63ghz cpu.
 
Hmmm....the CPU alone goes for $250, and it's at $290 right now. Sounds like a good CPU/mobo deal to me.

When I read the title of this thread, I expected it was about some crazy guy with his workbench-sized -200C cascade cooler taking a sucide screenshot of his PC at 7Ghz. Boy was I wrong...

no, because he states how he arrived at his conclusion numbers

His only problem is that if he wants to market to idiots he needs to sell a full computer, you cant expect an idiot to fall for the 7.5ghz listing and then be smart enough to throw it in a case and get it working.

It's misleading (an outright falicy), but that's a good price for that combo. I don't think they're being screwed over. It's not like people are paying $1000 for this.
 
The way I explain the whole dual processing thing to people is that I compare it to trucks.


Take a semi truck with a max speed of 100mph, it can carry 100 tons (use this as 1 core)


Now for dual processing, take two semi trucks and bolt them together side by side, now their top speed is 100mph, can carry 200 tons (two cores)


Same speed, more load (hence, more efficient and faster).

technically SOME applications do get nearly double the performance.

some encoding times, etc.. are cut in half and do perform near the 7-8Ghz mark. Though MOST apps only get about a 10% boost from having the CPU completely dedicated to it, while the other one handles the OS or other background apps.

Well, I don't know what is wrong with it, I bid...boy I hope I get it so I can replace this stupid opteron dual core of mine running at 2.9Ghz...Wow, hope I win, I mean to jump from 2.9Ghz (which is around 5.8Ghz right?) to 7Ghz+...
