Omega Drivers for nVidia

Do any of you prefer to use the Omega drivers instead of the official ones?

http://www.omegacorner.com/index_nvidia.html

There is an issue with Morrowind and the current lineup of nVidia drivers. The issue wasn't there with the 45.xx series of drivers but it is with the newer drivers and you can run the 45's using a 59XX series card like i have. I've seen a few people say that the issue isn't there with the Omega drivers. Are the Omega drivers better then the official ones? Is there any reason NOT to use the Omega drivers? Do i need to run Driver Cleaner 3.0 and uninstall my current drivers before installing these new Omega drivers?

For those of you that are interested, the issue with Morrowind is pretty irritating. I didn't have the problem back when i was using a Ti 4600 and the 45's but i do now on my new 5900XT. What happens is that when you go from an interior cell to an exterior cell the screen stays black for like 10 seconds longer then it should. I have a farely high end system and it loads quickly but it just hangs on the black screen. It seems like most everyone on the elder scrolls forum with a 59XX series card has this problem. Or at least all the ones that have responded to the thread so far do. There is other performance issues with the nVidia drivers also. The exterior world appears to be more "choppy" and random screen lockups for 2-3 sec or so.

I guess i'll try the Omega drivers and see if it fixes these issues. I just thought i would try to get some advice on the matter first as i have never used them before.

I've been using Omega drivers off and on for quite a while now and I don't find them any more or less stable than the Nvidia/Ati reference drivers. The Omega's are simply Nvidia/Ati drivers that are modified for either speed or image quality with some cool added features thrown in like the artifact tester for overclocking. For Nvidia cards you shouldn't have to use a driver cleaner before installing the Omega's.

While i'm on the subject of driver cleaner 3.0, you know when you reboot into safe mode and it recommends that you run cab cleaner also? Well i have a drivers.cab and a SP1.cab in the list. Do i clean them both? I'm guessing so as thats what i've been doing.

<free bump> I've never had to use a driver cleaner since I've always had Nvidia cards up to my present 9800np. That card went on a fresh Xp install so no cleaner was needed..

I thought it was best to just run Driver Cleaner each time you update or back up your drivers.

- Q2: Why would you do this if you're just switching to another version of your drivers???
- A2: I have found through personal experience that some files left behind after an install (due to XP's file protection) are basically meant for THAT driver set, as stupid as that might sound. Here's an example: From time to time I will load up the good old Doom3 alpha to kill a few minutes. The shadows in the game are spectacular, but not ALL the time. Using anything newer then the 3.9 Catalyst drivers the shadows begind to flicker sporatically, really ruining the experience. I'm sure that you have all at one time or another run into or heard of a bug in a game due to video card drivers. Truth be told, simply uninstalling the "bad" drivers will NOT always clear things up. I tried this originally, and going from the 4.3's back to the 3.9's the "quick" way.....the flickering remained. Running the Driver Cleaner in safe mode made it good as new, go figure.

Maybe so but I've never had a problem upgrading Nvidia cards because of the unified drivers. On a fresh Windows install there's nothing to clean however..
