Hey. I have a Rage 3D Pro PCI that is in a HTPC box i have. When i play DVD's using the standard Windows XP drivers...the screen just turns black but the movie is playing cause i can hear the sound. So i get the newest drivers....hehe...aka from 4 years ago and they work fine. Except there are flickering colors on the screen and it is all messed up. The DVD's play great, but look like ass. I tried adjusting all the different options but to no avail. I was wondering if anyone had an idea either how to get the DVD to play with the windows driver or how to fix the flickering? Thanks.

Sounds like the card is fried, frankly. Same thing happened with a riva tnt2 and it died soon after.

with the older drivers, was the tv set as the secondary display? The secondary display always showed black in wmp unless i played with the options on my 9700..

yeah i tried that...the only problem is that there is no selection screen in the standard win xp drivers.....so I can not select it at all. All the options are just generic display options. I wonder if this is an example of the "horrible ATI" drivers i always hear about from a while ago. I dunno. Any other ideas anyone....I am stumped here

tbonepat11,

That videocard in your HTPC is so old that ATI is no longer writing new drivers for it. The last Windows XP driver for that card is not WHQL-certified, and is nearly two years old.

You're much better off upgrading your videocard, in this case, since the only available Windows XP drivers for your card have problems with DVD playback.
