I've got an old system sitting around that I would like to rehab (as much as possible). For fun, so please no suggestions that I just buy something more modern. ;)

Abit BH-6 based and what I need is CPU compatability opinions.
I checked the board specs and it says that it will support up to 700mhz PIII, though I believe only 100mhz FSB models. I find several for sale in this range, but I seem to recall that the 440BX chipsets could not support Coppermine versions CPU's due to different voltage requirements. Is this correct?
Also, if the above is correct, what were the letter designations in the part numbers? I see E, EB (think this was coppermine), M (I assume this is mobile).

Any help is appreciated.

No. The 440BX chipset indeed supports Coppermine CPU's. It just can't officially support 133MHz FSB CPU's, but several manufacturers released "BX-133" boards that were overclockable to allow for 133MHz FSB CPU's to be used.
 
I've got a Supermicro dual 1ghz here and the coppermines (EB) in it are 133mhz. The mobo will use 100mhz slot-1 cpu's as well. This mobo has absolutely no overclocking options; it senses what cpu is in the slot and adjusts fsb automatically. Man, it's been a long time since I bought this, but I think it is the P6DR3. It sits in a corner and serves IL-2 and Lomac most of the time.

I also had an old Abit BX6-2 (I think) and it also supported both E and EB but it of course had manually adjustable fsb and was a great overclocking mobo.
