I've been in the mood to play some Caesar 3 lately but I want to be able browse the internet or whatever else while I'm playing. I figured since C3 won't let you minimize anyway, instead of rebooting into windows all the time I'd just run it in a VM.

The game launches and runs on my Windows 7 vm in compatibility mode, but I just can't seem to get it very playable. With mouse integration on it's damn near impossible to scroll, but with it disabled the mouse movement is choppy. If I could run the game stretched out in full screen I would be fine, but with the vm in full screen the game still runs in a 1024x768 window in the center.

Any ideas? :eek:
 
Then the whole VM is windowed in the middle of the screen.

I misunderstood what you meant I think. If I set my monitor res to 1024x768 that will work, I was thinking of the VM res. I hooked up an old 17" as a secondary and it will work if I can figure out a way to require a key combo to change screens.

Wouldn't the VM take up the whole 1024x768 that you expose via the host, and your display scales up the lower resolution?

i did this with netflix, i don't see why it would be windowed in another situation.
 
Yes, sorry I misunderstood what you meant originally.

If I set the host resolution to 1024x768 it works but that's kind of a pita to do every time. I hooked up an old 17" as a secondary to dedicate to it. Now I just need to figure out how to "lock" the mouse to the monitor so it doesn't go back to my main monitor when trying to scroll.
 
you should be able to disable pointer integration in the vm settings somewhere. This should prevent the mouse from scrolling out of the VM but you'll need to hit a hotkey (right Ctrl in VBox) to release it, Should work.

Edit: Are you running Linux? Caesar III is reported to work perfectly in WINE.
 
I'm aware of disabling mouse integration. I don't know if it's just me or what but the mouse movement seems to be really strange with mouse integration disabled though. At first I thought I was just used to the mouse acceleration in OS X but it still feels different than my native install of 7. :confused:

I guess I'll just have to get used to it. I haven't been able to find any software that will lock the pointer to a screen.
