So I have an oldish computer (rig in sig). I have NO need to build a newer computer at this point. My old one does everything I need it to do. Sure, sometimes it feels a little slow, but the time I spend on it is still neglible that I cannot justify spending on a new computer right now. Eventually I'll probably build one, but when that is, I have no idea. Could be 6 months, 12 months, or even 24 months from now!
But, I did learn that my PSU has died. Or at least I think it's my PSU. I tried my friend's PSU and my computer worked fine. With my PSU, nothing works (screen doesn't even show anything).
So now I'm looking for a PSU. If I knew I was going to build a new computer in the near future, I would invest in a nice $100+ PSU, but that isn't the case.
I'm not sure what my budget is actually, because I'm not sure what I'm looking to get. Do I need a $80 dollar PSU, or would a $50 be stable enough? Or maybe my rig is so old nothing matters and I should risk a $20 PSU.
I've been looking around on the reviews and stuff, and [H] likes to test things by stressing them to max. But my system use to run off a 350 W PSU, so I know I don't need to be able to fully utilize a 450W PSU. I would like something stable (who wouldn't), but I'm not sure it's worth spending $100 for a PSU.. making my PSU worth more than the rest of my computer, combined (almost, haha). Conversely, a $20 PSU that will fry my CPU next week isn't a hot idea either.
So, just looking for suggestions on how I might find this right balance... and then what PSUs fall into that balance area.
Anyone? =)
