Odd openvpn issue

I have my openvpn server set to push DNS so the client uses that as it's primary DNS. On my work machine I recently had to reinstall my network card drivers, and now windows keeps using the local DNS as the primary, probably because the connection ID is higher, or something.

Is there any way to force the DNS properly either through openvpn or Windows?

Obviously I can go edit the connection properties, but I want it to only apply when the VPN is connected.
