I was jsut tinkering with my OVerclock to get better more stable resutls when I encountered a CPU limitation... Ok... So Since I couldn't run my core at 237x11 I figured I would try 230x11.5

Well, this worked great as it is almost rock solid, (F@H, Prime, Gaming, Forum) but what teh hell does that ".5" do? Instead of my ram running at 230, it is runing at 220.5, as if I had some sort of divider on the CPU that affects the ram... Whats goign on?

aighttn1.jpg

the memory dividers come in whole numbers, so the cpu will round up the cpu multi to the nearest integer if you're running 1:1.. which is why the ram is cpu/12.

for future reference, ram speed = cpu speed / ceiling (cpu multi / memory ratio)

where the memory ratio is 1:1 for 200mhz/ddr400
5:6 for 166mhz, ddr333
2:3 for 133mhz, ddr266, and so forth ;)

So I might as well run 220x12 then huh...

Lol. But seriosuly, if the ".5" is gonna divide my ram like that, I might as well go back too 220x12? There are no benifts huh?

How odd... Its weird becuase my ram isn't limiting me, its my CPU.

Wait, A64s accept half multis? I thought they rounded up to the nearest whole number...

memory divider does....

yeah, might as well just run 220x12. or if your cpu is limiting you, why not keep it at 240x11 or 264x10? faster ram is never bad, if it's stable

Half multis are fun to play with an A64s, I've never found a good use for them though.

I wish I could hit 240 stable. Shit. My ram Errors out on Memtest with 2.8-30 volts with 3-3-3-8 Timings.IF I could though, I would run 240x11 for sure. That is what I was trying to acheive anyways. Damn Ballastix handles the volts like a pro but I jsut can't seem to get it too 240 stable... I'm pretty sure it is teh timings, but how much looser then 3-3-3-8 can you get before it just isnt worth it ><

I know why... :p Damn rounding.

ballistix should be able to do 270-300mhz without too much effort. if you can't, it's the mobo's fault.

try raising command rate to 2T.. i see an asus in your sig ;)

Have you tried loosening your timings to 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-15 even, just for testing purposes?...then tighten from there. Timings don't play all that of an important roll, I would rather hit a higher FSB. Most ballistix I've seen is specced for 4-4-4-12 anyways, is it not?

Asus MoBo indeed. Active cooled Northbridge!

I thought 2T was a bad, horrible, DREAFUL thign too stay away from, unless you ahd 4 sticks of RAM in which case it was nesscary.

(Read Sig [DDR not DDR2] )

On that note however, I have them at 3-4-4-9 and 2.9v and they are running 237 flawlessly. My sig reflects where I am at now.

Sorry for double, accident. I havn't figured out how to delete my posts quite yet... ><

if you're limited to below 240mhz with 1T and you manage to make it to 270mhz with 2T (keep it at 3-3-3 btw, looser won't help), then it'll be faster. not a lot, since ram doesn't do much anyway, but it's worth a shot

and doubleposting isn't really that bad. you can't delete posts, but you can edit :D

Aight. Ill take alook see and see how it reacts at 2T with 3-4-4-9 (stable at 376) too see if I can get it higher... I imagine 260x10 would be the ideal OC (260 x 10 = 2600 BTW)

We'll see. I dont belive my Mobo is limitng me, but I have no way to tweak voltages on the MoBo.

I'll try to see where I can get with 3-3-3 settings, maybe the 2T will open my ram up alot.

...you have voltage options, trust me

and i dislike asus for a reason. it's cause they suck with ram

I may have voltage options, but let me rephrase, none off the mobo. I'm not skilled enuff to mess with Soldering :) Cept m ycase fan that I had to resolder :p

My fault, I meant voltage options for my Motherboard, like altering voltage to the north and south-bridge... Etc..

My fault for not clearing that up :p

Also, my HT link is at 713.3 with a 237x11 Overclock. The HTLink is at 4x... WTF?

EDIT1
Nevermind... After the reboot, it seems to have kicked to the real value... how odd. I undervolted it and it wasn't reading right.

Here is the latest over clock at 2.6GHz with a 237 FSB

I'm gonna let it:
/Insert shameless F@H plug
Fold for the [H]orde
/End shameless F@H plug
while I am at work and I will test the 2T command rate when I get home. I truthfully hope I can get too 260, as 260x10 stable would roxx0r my soxx0rs :p

oh, those kinds of voltages don't do crap for k8 platforms.. except for very rare cases :D

anyway, good luck with 2T, i'll be looking forward to seeing how it does. you might wanna run benches for before and after to see which is faster and by how much

Will do... Means I'll have to go-a searching for some good Benches, what do youall reccommend to test The RAM and CPU... Im not big on 3DMarks, but Sisandra is good for that stuff right?

I've got a nVidia GPU, Doom3 FPS would be capped by my CPU for sure, unless that is what your getting at ;)

SuperPi would be a good bench I suppuse. I'm back from work at any rate so I shall get some homework finished up and start into it.

heh, if you don't mind, what do you have to do? i'm working on thermodynamics right now  :D

Collage Algebra and Accounting Applications.

Easy shit. What grade are you in? Collage?

I'm in high shool :)

+1 To Hate FActor

I had to clock my PC back to stcok as I encounjtered some wierd, WIERD instabilites that were occuring at every OC that was stable before... So, unjtil furthur notice, this is halted.

BTW, it happened after that 2T thing... ><

Im gonna think bout this and do it when I have more time. Plus, I shall order a aftermarket CPU cooler, maybe that Natulis, for entry into water-cooling.
