So I have an odd fan question, I have 2 Antec 120mm Tri-Cool fans that I bought to install in a cabinet that our presentation computer sits in. I had planned on running both fans off of the computers PSU which would work out perfectly as they would only be on when the computer was on. Well my plan was going well until I opened the computers case (it's a Dell, business style) and the damn thing has 3 cables running out of the PSU one SATA power for the HDD, 1 24pin, and a 4pin for the mobo, that's it.

So here is my question, I know that both of these fans are 12V and cutting into the PSU's wiring is a no go as it'd void the comps warranty so... Would it work to get a 12V DC adapter like one that would come with a radio or clock and wire the fans into that, could it be that simple?

Should be yeah. Just make sure that the combined amperage of both fans isn't higher than the rated output of your DC wall wart and you're good to go.

I'll be doing something very similar with fans for my Soyo LCD monitor casing mod I'm working on.

Or I could buy this :p.

And hook the HDD back up with this.

Well, /you/ could buy that -- I don't have any SATA cables to leech off of in my monitor, but cool find none the less. ;)

I think you'd be best going w/the SATA Power splitter/adapter, but another potential alternative is to run the fans off USB power (if the ports are avail)
