searching thru the forum i get a mixed bag of likes and dislikes and "this power supply explodes on contact" reviews..

I'm torn between the Neopower and the ocz modstream. I really prefer the looks of the modstream over the neopower, but i've always liked antec psu's. if the modstream 520 is a decent psu i would rather purchase it..

can anyone let me know if its rebadged junk or a decent psu for my p4 3.0 and 6800gt. i know well enough to stay away from the x-connects

thanks

SOmeone said it explodes on contact? It is supposed to be comparable(not exactly the same but comparable) to OCZ's powerstream IIRC.

I've got a 450 watt modstream. It's a decent psu and I've got no complaints except that the 4-pin atx cable is a bit short. One nice feature is that the 24 pin connector separates at the last 4 pins, making it backwards-compatible with 20-pin boards.

Here is another post regarding them (in case you missed it.)

your sure your not confusing it with the Ford Pinto? :p

my opinion is in the Blue Storm\Modstream sticky

i might have been exaggerating a bit :) there is a thread about powerstream dying early deaths and modstreams are lumped in there..

i'm gonna purchase the modstream today.. just wish the neopower had the "extras" of the modstream.. its plain jane cables turn me off..

I just bought the Modstream 520 and I have to say its the Best PSU I have ever had.
Since I am currently building a new computer I was doing research on PSUs, I was looking on The OCZ site at the 520 and VOOOOOM, my current computer shuts down... WTF. I open the case and learn that my PSU just burned out. I took that as a sign to BUY the Modstream 520 and I have to say it runs my current (old P4 2.4) with almost no noise.

Also its perfect for my new MB Asus A8N SLI Deliuxe

For the cost ($170 Canadian) and use I plan to get out of it, I would fully recomend this PSU. But only if you need the extra power. Go with the 450 unless you have major power draws (like dual GFX cards.)

I just built my new setup with the 520 I LOVE it. The finish is AMAZING, its like black chrome. The cables are high quality, my only complaint is that the main power cable to the MB is VERY stiff so its a bit of a wrestling match to get it routed where you want it.
Otherwise its KILLER
I went with the 520 version because I dont know what my future plans will be, and I may need the extra headroom.
I also plan on overclocking, so I want as much power in reserve as possible :)

I just last week bought the 450w. So far I love it. Definitely the best looking psu I've ever owned, looks amazing under a UV light.
