Any drawbacks? I can get this PSU for about 75 bucks shipped where as the 520W version will cost another 20 or 30 more. Obviously, I dont need the 520W version by looking at my sig. But my question is, if I were to go dual core with two harddrives, a top of the line video card(i.e. 7800gtx), one or two disc drives, xfi xtreme music, etc. etc. would I need the 520W version rather than the 450W? Or is a 450W OCZ modstream able to handle nearly as much as the 520W? And NO SLI for me unless I get dual 6600GT's. TIA

i had problems with mine handling a 3200+ venice, 2 6600gt's, 1 gig ocz platinum, a 74 gig raptor, 200 gig sata, dvd burner and floppy drive (with 5 case fans)...overclocking was limited as it would kick me back to the desktop if i had everything overclocked (cpu, mem and gpu's)...so for your sake, with dual cores, you'll be better off with the 520w

The OCZ MS 450W is fine for your current system, but even the OCZ MS 520W is not enough for your proposed upgrades,
I recommend the Antec NeoPower 480W, as it can handle those proposed upgrades.

Good Luck,
Dave ;)

i have the mod450 and love it. Looks cool and it performs awesome. But i agree with the other people that with all that stuff you want to get, you need more power.

So NeoPower, even though its only 480W, a mere 30W more, can handle the proposed system yet the 520W modstream cannot?

Wattage isnt accurate to a PSUs performance at all. Whilst the Neopower might only be 480 watts, It has higher amperage on every rail (atleast I think it does..)

ModStream 450W = +12V@26A
ModStream 520W = +12V@28A

Antec NeoPower 480W = max combined +12V@32A

nVidia recommends a min of +12V@30A for SLI. ;)

I'm running the following rig flawlessly on a Modstream 450 (with 24 pins):

X2 4400+ Toledo
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
2GB Crucial PC3200
2 250GB Seagate HDD's
Albatron 7800GT
Creative SB Audigy 2ZS
2 CD/dvd burners

I think the Modstream 450 will be fine for what you are doing as long as you DON'T do SLI. SLI, I'd probably get the Antec they're reccomnding. Anyway, isn't a 7800GTX better than 2x6600 SLI? Anybody correct me if I'm wrong... :D

My current CPU does not have PCI-Ex power plugs, nor does it have a 24-pin connector and I want a new PSU with modular design....

My current PSU's 12V rail has 22A on it.

So, Modstream 520W or Antec NeoPower 480W?
id say the neo power 480w as it leaves more for future upgrades but the modstream is also very nice with a mirror finish and much more "bling" not that the neo power's titanium color is ugly

Ya, the only thing stopping me from ordering the NeoPower is that Ive heard that the connections can be lose at the PSU end which causes fluctuations. Its beautiful but the OCZ are gorgeous. Im stuck. OCZ 520W or Antec Neo480W....ahhh someone just slap me and tell me what to do

Or the Enermax Liberty 500W or 620W maybe? ;)

:p You suck. haha. Im focussed on the Modstream 520 and Neo480...I just need a push to one side or the other

Either is fine for non-SLI, the Neo can handle SLI.

Are you going SLI? If so then the Neo, if not, then flip a coin. ;)
