As I found out most of us are hitting walls with overclocking there CPU not because the CPU is a dud or what ever but because the CPU is limited by our power supply. I have come to find out some pretty intresting stuff when it comes to overclocking my cpu. mainly that it has a bad addicton to power. Power to my cpu is mans version of heroin. Wants you give it some it can not get enough.

To hit 300FSB my cpu on its own demands 280+ watts of juice. :( stunning cos that mean I need to have a minimum of 23amp just for the cpu :( then you need another 10-15 amps for your video card. Before you know it your knocking on the door asking for a power supply in the region of 50amps.

i've got a P4 520 with a 350 PSU, it's stock is 2.8 ghz, and i've got it OC'd to 3.36 on that PSU, i'm hoping that a new 430w PSU will take it to 3.61 ghz. all while keeping the CPU at 50c on load and 40c on idle w/ air cooling. this all with an x800 gto pci-e, three hdds and two optical drives.

How do you figure your CPU needs 280+ watts?
