I know this is not recommended but some do it. My MOBO does not allow me to overclock in the Bios. I know back in the day I used to use a program like CPUID, or something to that effect. Are there better programs?

Just thought I'd ask as I'm going dual core soon with this legacy MOBO.

if your motherboard doesnt support overclocking in the bios.. a good bet would be that windows based overclocking isnt going to do much better unless you have an amd 7XX series chipset.. then you could use overdrive..
 
It's a socket 939 AMD. It made a pretty good difference before on the single core. Took it from 2.2 to 2.5 -2.6 when i kept the room cooler. I'm hoping to be able to OC my new Dual 1.8 Opteron 165 to a least 2.0 or 2.1ghz. Who knows what she'll do.
 
I used “easy tune” that came with my mobo, one single click and it OC’ed the CPU to 3.4, then restored everything back to default and re-OC’ed manually cuz I guess it exaggerates some values (vcore), try “setfsb” it might help
