Hey guys,
I just got a Koolance at a great price and will take my first stab at OCing. I have a couple of AMD chips I can use but I don't know which one is best for OCing. These are the chips I have:
AMD 2700+
AMD Athlon 64 3200 (I think that's the MHz)
and a Opteron 246.

I would also need a recomendation on a good MB to match up with the CPU. I mainly use the 2700+ right now. I have built a clear system with the Athlon 64 that was at a booth at a University show. The Opteron was won at a AMD show and is still in the packaging. At this moment I was thinking of using the Opteron in a server and use the Athlon 64 for the OCing but not sure if this is the best way to go. I would also hate to loose the Opteron if I F'up the Koolance setup. (Note to self: Test for leaks before installing HW.)

Thanks,

Zych

The Athlon64 3200 is actually 2GHz. And from what others have seen with them so far is an OC of up to around 2.3GHz fairly easily with air cooling. Higher requires better cooling and increasing voltage. There isn't a lot of headroom for the Athlon64 tho so you won't be getting super high OC's. If you do let me know. :) I've personally been able achieve 2.35GHz with my 3000+ but it wasn't entirely stable.

One of the biggest obstacles to the Athlon64 OC'ing has been the general lack of AGP/PCI lock. Your peripherals will be making a lot of the difference in your overclock.

Good luck.
