Hey guys, I was wondering how much quality ram can usually overclock to?

Like I saw that 3000+/3500+ 90nm chips being overclocked at 290x9 with the OCZ EL rev 2 pc3200 ram chips..

What I know is that PC3200 has a speed of 200mhz at default and their post-overclocking results are at 290. In which isn't in the ratio range of 1:1 nor 5:4 by far, and my question is that: is it possible to overclock your ram, for example, 200mhz to 230mhz without too much risk?
 
Yep,it is possibe, but some ram likes a lot of voltage, my ram will do 240mhz with 2.75V, just gotta keep it cool.
 
with a cool ambient system temp and with those heat spreaders that come with it, u think the OCZ EL rev 2 can reach that high without frying or potential of frying if you leave it on too long?
 
xyber, it always depends. What one set of ram gets for an overclock, the next two sticks may not. As with all overclocking attempts, do so cautiously *unless your rich and dont care about frying components*. When things start to seem unstable, then back down. Adjust your voltage accordingly.
 
ram heatspreaders haven't been shown to make a difference.. they are basically just bling..
and it is a lot more complicated..

my ram runs 217 at 2-4-4-7.. that is the offical rating.. but right now it is doing 2-3-3-11.. at stock voltage.. and 217...
i ran it at 2-3-2-11 and 215.. but i never tested it tottally to see if it is stable, and i know it is stable here. now.. my motherboard can't change the ram voltage.. but if it could, i am sure i could put some more juice through it and hit 2-2-2-11 at 220.. or up to 240 at say 3-3-3-11..

so that person hitting 290 could be running 3v and cas 4.. (4-4-4-x) or 3.5-2-2-x or anything..

there are a lot of factors though..
voltage, latency, and heat...
 
Hmm should I get the OCZ EL rev 2 pc3200 or get the XMS pc3700s? For an OC like the 90nm 3000+ @ 2.5 or 2.6?
