I know that you can't oc manufactured pcs becasue they lock it somehow. Now, what if I upgrade the CPU does that make it overclockable or do I have to change the mobo too??
I have a pcv-rx660 sony on a ASUSTeK Computer INC. P4B266LM REV 1.xx mobo and p4 1.8.

Any help welcome

HOw?? Because when I go yo my bios it's locked, I can't change the values. Is there a way to unlock it ???

I believe, it primary depends on the motherboard. Some motherboards utilize BIOS that allow for overclocking, some dont, some are marginal. I have an Intel D865 motherboard and... I can overclock the system by 4%, raising the FSB from 800 >> 832 and adding about 128 Mhz to the system.

go to the Asus web site and download the manual for that mobo. It may support overclocking. You may have to flash to the Asus bios if available. Alternately, you can use a program called clockgen if you figure out which clock generator chip your mobo uses.

(and it's not really that big name guys lock everything down, it's that mobo manufacturers that sell to the populace have learned that entusiasts are a pretty big market and enthusiasts want overclocking, so they have unlocked the ability to overclock.)
