I have a Panasonic ptl-500u projector...it's a HDTV projector with a native res of 1280x720. I have hooked it up through the DVI port on my Geforce 5800 FX and couldn't get the DVI to give the projector a signal. The DVI works out of my Bravo D1 DVD player through the DVI output and looks awesome, so it would seem that the 5800 FX cannot actually put out 1280x720 or HDTV output through the DVI port, in fact I can't get anything at all through the DVI port on my current video card, I had to put it in through Analog, which isn't a 1x1 pixel map and so looks cruddy. I read something about purevision with nvidia cards meant to display HDTV better. I'm wondering if I need to buy a video card for my PC with "purevision" in order to get the DVI output to work on my projector? I remember seeing purevision information on Nvidia's website, but apparently they've stripped it off, and I remember reading somewhere that it wasn't supported in all the cards it was supposed to be supported in. I'm curious if Nvidia removed it from their website the same way they removed the 5800FX card from their website because it didn't do what it was supposed to do or what???

I thought I read somewhere that the 6600GT and the 6600's are the only cards with purevision that actually does function, though I can no longer find that article to verify. Problem is I don't really want a 6600GT, because it won't be that much faster than my 5800FX...I found a great deal on a PNY 6800GT, does anyone know if the PNY card has purevision, or even if purevision is what I need to output to the DVI input on my projector and run games at the 1280x720 resolution?

Purevision is made for cleaning up video sources so they look clearer and better, your card doesn't need to support it just to output HD. It almost sounds to me that your video card's DVI out is broken.

Sounds right about the DVI. Of course any Geforce6 can "output" to HDTV resolutions. PureVideo will allow the "decoding" of WMV HD format files with less CPU utilization. It also allows other video features that may include a "soap" like feature.

thanks for the links...has anyone here hooked up their PC to a HDTV set or projector using DVI? How did the text look in windows? Using 1280x720 on the analog out on my geforce fx5800 looks bad...I don't know if it's the conversion or what, but the text looks like the drivers are not scaling it correctly.
