How good is the gforce 5200 fx asylum 256 mb? I bought one for playing around with and some moderate gaming. But I read everywhere on here that it blows. So what give's whats so bad about the card ?

The game benchmarks are on unreal tournament 2003 33fps on that game don't even expect to play doom 3, half-life2, or farcry without very low framerate. Research and you will find that the whole FX line is crap! except FX5950 and FX5900 dont bother. The 5200 is a hair slightly faster than a geforce 4 mx440 nuff said there... If money is a issue and you don't want to shell out big cash...you can get a pretty decent card like a ati radeon 9600xt for $128 the fx5200 is just not worth paying $47 for it unless you don't game then its fine.

Also getting a 256mb version of a videocard below a fx5900 ultra is MEANINGLESS and WORTHLESS. 9800pro and higher does make a difference having 256mb anything below 9800pro isn't.... same with nvidia anything below fx5900 256mb is worthless.
 
The 5200 is a horrible card. Look for a used Radeon 8500 or GF3 or TI4200 if you're on a low budget. Any of these will slaughter a 5200.
 
Boy this really sucks, i got it as a gift and dont really know if i can take it back. Hmm a guy ows me some work maybe i can pay him with it. I do play doom 3 and farcry. What is a decent card for about $200 max to spend?
 
Best Card to get with $200 is definately a ati radeon 9800pro 128mb you can find it for as low as $149 on pricewatch.com ....the most you will get for that 5200 is $40 thats pretty much what its worth. The 9800pro is an excellent card you will notice i HUGE performance boost in farcry.
 
Sweet, thanks for the replys keep um coming if there is more information you can bestoe into me. I have decided I will use that card as a form of payment. And pick up a ati 9800pro.
