What I need to know is if anyone has tried to mount any different kinds of ramsinks on their 6800's with the NV Silencer 5 on there. The Silencer itself does not offer memory cooling, and I'm sure as heck not leaving those chips without any "coverup". I NEED to know if the dimensions of the Silencer allow the installation of any moderately sized ramsinks like these from Vantec with measurements of 16x13x9mm.

I originally had larger plans for the cooling on my 6800GT, but money contraints might hold me back a bit, but I'd still be MORE then happy with the Silencer in comparison to the stock cooler....however.....not if I'm not gonna be able to "do" any memory cooling at the same time.

Common sense would dictate that a cooler wouldn't be designed for a hot-running card like this that would prevent you from adding any ramsinks.....but you never know.

Can anyone give me a straight "Yes it'll work" or "No it won't" answer based on experience?

EDIT: Alright, wtf....does this thing do memory cooling or what?

The first thing I saw was this link saying that it did NOT do memory cooling.....then I go check out a post on a sales forum and find these pics of the thing....clearly showing that it DOES do memory cooling.

Which is it? I really need to know.....because if it DOES in fact have the memory cooling I'm sold on it for that price, as anything is better then this shitty stock setup.....but I've got two many different sites contradicting each other in terms of whether or not it cools the ram or not.

EDIT 2: Alright, I'm almost convinced that the cooler DOES in fact cool the ram, after seeing a few pics posted by members here at [H] of the backs of thier NV5's. The weird thing is that every online shop is saying in the specs that it doesn't.....weird huh?

I still think I need someone to tell me that it's gonna do it for me, just to hear it first hand. ;)

the nv silencer 5 does cool all the memory chips with its copper base. some sites list it as not offering memory cooling, they are wrong.

and i was looking forward to your thermalright cooling :(.

So am I, but cash constraints have kind of limited my options.....as I want to have SOMEthing other then stock cooling on the card for this LAN on the 17th. Don't worry guys, this doesn't mean I'm abandoning it completely.....I'm just saying that for NOW I'm gonna move over to the NVSilencer....at least until after the LAN when things aren't so rush.....cus I'm actually looking at getting a custom fabrication done with the ramsinks....basically making a complete replicate of the "L-shaped" aluminum block on the memory out of copper, and enhancing it slightly. I'd rather get the NVSilencer now and wait if it meant being able to spend the extra cash to get the Thermalright setup done right with the custom "ramsink block" made for the card.
