basically with the 350 watt power supply (Enermax EG365P-VE) I bought 5 years ago I cant run my older 266mhz DDR Athlon 2100+ system. I'm just not getting enough power. It says things like the nVidia Geforce 6600GT AGP is not getting power from the 5V molex connector.

What can I do? I've already unhooked my cd burner and my floppy as well as dropped the O/C on my cpu.

I can't get the 5V line to be stable 5V, its reading out as 4.8-4.9... Its like 50% chance I will boot and video card will claim it doesn't have auxillery power.

Am I harming anything? What else can I unhook? I've got a super fast delta on my cpu and like 2-3 case fans and excellent temperature

4.8-4.9 on the 5v should be fine, AFAIK. But you can just get a better PSU, or get a second PSU and use it to power your HDs and stuff.

Any reason why my video card is saying that it has been underclocked because it does not have enough power to run? I was under impression 350W was fine.

Also, running Doom3 it runs flawlessly at advertised speeds.

I think that the 6600 runs mostly off of the 12v, so you should check that instead of the 5v.

This is going to sound stupid but can a power supply lose the ability to supply max power after years of running many hours out of the day.

Basically whenever I boot I am greeted with the
"NVIDIA-powered graphics card is not getting sufficient power to run and is underclocked"

+12V = 12.48
+5V = 4.919
+3.3V = 3.344
Vcore = 1.696

Vcore will never stay stable 1.65 so that can't be lowered.

Config:
-80mm fan Panasonic Panaflow, 2 in 1 out
-Very loud and fast 80mm fan that can't go anywhere on CPU
-LG DVD-ROM drive, not cd/rw just generic 16x/48x
-1024MB PC2100 DDR @ 266mhz w/ extra voltage @ 5-2-2-2 been this way for 5 years on
same ram
-AMD Athlon T-Bred 2100+ @ 266mhz
-nVidia Geforce 6600GT AGP 128mb w/ auxillery 5v molex connector
-Sound Blaster Audigy 1 Gamer
-Western Digital 120GB HDD with 8mb buff

That is basically it
if my setup just WONT work can you tell me the cheapest / best bang for buck PSU. Im looking on the net, 410w Silencers look nice

+12V @ 25A

for additional considerations

a good supply that had a good run
but isnt up to the task at hand ;)

Ok so basically under real time load I don't have enough amperes to run everything? Right?

I saw the buying guide sticky so I'll look there for a new PSU.

I changed the molex connector since the one that was hooked up seemed like the golden connector attached to the red wire was stretched a lot, and it has not given me a problem yet but it probobly will.

My dad's computer came with a generic Antec 320W power supply, would that fair better?

unlikely, probably anemic on the +12V rail as well
you really want a new ATX12V v2.0 supply with like 30 amps or better on the +12V rails
hell just the CPU eats 72 watts off the +12V rail (6 amps)

therin is the rub, the older PSU where geared to supplying power for the mobo and CPU off the +5V rail, and all the Video Card power was supplied via the AGP slot

now damn near everything is on the +12V rail

Antec Neopower ATX12V v2.0
Enermax Noisetaker ATX12V v2.0
OCZ Powerstream ATX12V v2.0 (600 watt Topower TOP-708P6)

or if you got the $$$
PC Power and Cooling Turbo Cool 510 Express

cheap seats (and yet independently reviewed by anyone competent)
Fortron Blue Storm ATX12V v2.0

OK thanks a LOT for the info. You answered all my questions and I've decided to just get a new powersupply. I'm looking at the ones you listed now.

Now for my last question, if I can get everything to run how damaging will this be to my system? I can run the system as is but every once and a while I have power issues at boot with the card and it says it is underclocked.

And it's obvious there is either barely enough or just not enough power

well technically the supply should shutdown without any overshoot or undershoot
but it doesnt always workout that way, and the mobos voltage regulation modual is also in the picture, and the Videocard Auxillary power and all the drives dont even have that buffer

its risky

> ESD & Electromigration Rant

edit:

I am just going to look for a 12v oriented power supply with double or tripple 12V lines that has atleast 30A of juice being supplied. Depending on where I look will be what I end up getting, there are a lot of stores near by.

I'll look for ATX12V v2.0 also.

Read most of the sticky, I think I got it under control.

Thanks for all the help everyone <3
