I have an ABit IC7 MAX 3 and p4 2.4c I took off my watercooling and started using the stock fan, because I move my comp around a lot now and the water was a pain.

So I was running it at 2.77ghz for 4 months, it worked great. Now I formatted to install vista, and vista didnt like my overclock so i put it to stock speeds.

Well im done with vista for now so i wiped vista and put XP back on. But now it locks up at 2.77ghz.... and I put it down to 2.5ghz and it locks up when playing games...

Why would it work fine before and not now? I can get better cooling and try that but i just dont get it. I havent changed a thing, im using the same drivers and everything, just did a clean install.

That is weird. I suggest double-checking your BIOS settings to make sure none of the timing and voltage settings have changed. Also, did you achieve your 2.77GHz OC on water? If so, you'll probably have less OC head-room with your current air setup.

Let me get this straight... you went from H20 to the factory HSF and you're wondering why your old overclock isn't holding stable?

Unless its one of the worst steppings ever any 2.4c should OC to at least 2.8GHz default cooling and Vcore easily if the bios settings are correct ;)

NO i did not obviously take the water off and expect the same OC lol. Like i said Ive been running for MONTHS on the stock fan at 2.77ghz.

my water overclock was over 3ghz.

And I wrote down ALL my bios settings on paper / double checked them before I installed vista because i knew something shitty would happen.

I tried underpowering it but it locked up before it could even get into windows (overclocked that is)
