Northwood temps

I just put my Northwood 3.06/533 into a new case with my old mobo. Cranked up the FSB to 145 for 3.3ghz. I'm in our server room and it's pretty warm from all the machines. The case thermometer shows 88F, although that seems a little high. The CPU is showing between 48-55C, using the stock hsf. The machine seems happy enough, and when I move it out of the sweltering server room, I expect the temps to drop a bit.

Is this a stable operating temp for this CPU? How high can I expect to hit? 3.3 seems fast enough for a machine I'm giving to someone else. I have an XP-90 cooler that I never used when I bought an AMD heat pipe for my opteron. Would it help with the Northwood?

I'd say you're doing really quite well all things considered. Yes it's a stable operating temp - XP-90 should help nicely though. I'm unsure as to how much more you will get. Best bet is to push it & see

Just need to watch your voltages.

My wifes northwood (same as yours) wont OC for shit, even at 3.2 it has problems. Your temps are about what I see too, so I wouldnt worry about it.

Thanks for the answers. This machine isn't for me, so I want it to run well without too much supervision. I'll kick it up to 150 and see if it'll hold.

motherboard difference can cause that.

throw that XP-90 on there an see what that proc can do, im not sure on the safe operating temps but i guess anything over 60C is pushing the cpu into the red zone. i like to keep my P4 3.0 under 50C

Ive used different motherboards, its just a weak OC'er unfortunately.
