im concerned about my NB cooling on the first system in my sig. i plan on overclocking to over 3.4ghz and a friend of mine says that i should worry about cooling my NB at such high fsb's (275+). with luck id like to run mine at 3.6ghz, the stock ic7-g NB fan is 5000rpm and its a big heatsink. is that good enough or do i need to get something better. im building a koolance setup and id just end up throwing on the NB cooler in the loop with the cpu and gpu if thats the case.

At the very least, if the northbridge fan on your IC7-G is the same as the one on my IC7-Max3, you should at least pull it off and put on some AS5 or Ceramique or whatever your weapon of choice is. I think the stuff Abit puts on it is actually bubble gum or something, heh. Lap the heatsink while you're at it.

But, since you're ordering everything now anyway, you might as well just get the Koolance fan. What is it, $15?

Is the stock NB fan on the IC7 series really that crappy? i've heard people with a lot of problems with it.

It's better than passive cooling, but by how much I'm not sure. I think the reason most people have problems with it isn't the heatsink itself but the thermal paste Abit uses. That, and Abit should really do a better job of lapping it, if they even try that is.

And it's pretty loud.
