Normal i920 Temps

So just put together a machine with an i920 and used the liquid cooling parts I had from my previous build (a long time ago) and had a few questions regarding what kind of temps I'm seeing.

Currently I'm at stock speeds (2.66 @ x20, 2.79 @x21) and wanted to make sure everything is working right before I start to OC the thing.

Tool I'm using to test:
CPUID HW Monitor v1.14.0​
IntelBurnTest v2.3​

My questions:

HW Monitor shows a few different temperature regarding the CPU; it shows the "CPU Temp" are reported by the motherboard, and the temp for the individual cores as reported by the chip itself. Which temp(s) do I care about?

Although I know they mean nothing, at idle my CPU temp is ~30C (+/- 2C) and my Core Temps are between 40C and 44C. My VREG temp idles at around 45C. Are these numbers normal?

When I load it up using IntelBurnTest (8 threads, max RAM) my CPU temp is around 50-52C and my core temps are 65-67C. The VREG temp seems to top out around 64-66C as well. Ambient is 24-26C. Again, are these temps normal?

Once I stop the test the CPU temp drops almost instantly to 33C but the core temps take a few minutes to drop down to 45C.

My goal isn't to push the chip to it's limit, but get a decent overclock while still keeping it relatively quiet.

Enzotech Luna.RevA Waterblock
DD12V-D5 water pump, set at max speed (http://www.dangerden.com/store/dd12v-d5_pump-variable-speed-by-laing.html?&cat=23)
Danger Den 120x2 radiator (don't reember specific model number)
using the two 120mm fans that came with it (they run at 1100rpm but I don't know how many CFM they move)​
Using stock intake fan (HDD mount) and 230mm side intake fan. Added an extra exhaust fan above the io-plate.
RAM is running at 1600MHz at 1.65V.

I would use Real Temp to monitor the CPU. Simplier to read with all cores, and only cores. It will record the min. and max. value it reads as it is run. Perfect for load testing as temps will vary during the run of intelburn or prime95.
 
I trust realtemp.

Partially because it's higher or equal to the other ones I've tried.

I figure that's safest.
 
Ran the same tests with HW Monitor and RealTemp side by side. They were accurate to within a degree of each other and I got pretty much the same result.
 
I was noticing that one of the cores was running cooler than all the others and made me suspicious that there might be a contact issue. The cooler core was #3 (as they start numbering with 0) so I pulled off the waterblock, cleaned everything up, applied new TIM in a nice thin layer across the heatspeader and put the block back on to check for contact. I also rotated the block 180-degrees to make sure there were no bubbles hiding in there. (Previously the blocks intake was higher than it's output). Contact appeared to be fine as it made contact with the entire headspreader. I ran the tests again and got the following results:

Cores 0-2 : Maxed out at 58C
Core 3: Maxed out at 55C
CPU: Maxed out at 44C
VREG: Maxed out at 59C

I'd love to say this was improvement but it's significantly cooler today than it was 2 days agao when I ran the tests. Ambient is probably 20-21C today as opposed to 24-26C last time.

Would anybody care to comment on the numbers, and not the tools I used to test? I'd like to know that I'm not running too hot before I give the processor a little extra gas. Thanks.
 
@chinesepiratefood: Thanks for confirming that. Do you have any comment on the core temps themselves?
 
Core temps look well within the norm of safe usage. I have mine on air crunching 24/7 and it is always between 60-63. I don't know what setup you are running with your h20 so its hard to tell if its doing you justice. apparently these chips can take a lot of heat and not have any issues (not saying that 80-90 24/7 is the best but it wont kill it) Are you planning on overclocking it at all?
 
It's a pretty simple setup. Cooling the CPU only and have a 2x120 radiator. I plan to overclock it to something like 3.2, but not anything crazy.
