Hi , ive looked for this info by but there is so much info on overclocking the 2.4c that I cant find it.
I currently have a 2.4c overclocked to 3.0 on a is7, but i have only crucial 2100 running at 167. Needless to say I cant seem to push beyond this but I was happy enough to see the old memory hit that.
Im not sure if the processor can go higher. What difference would I see from getting some ram that can run faster/ better timing if I end up being stuck at the same 3.0 overclock?

you'll get higher memory bandwidth with faster ram and tighter timings, the bandwidth helps with games i don't know if it'll help anything else cuz i only stress my computer with games
but as you can see that isn't possible right now if you look at my sig

For sure, faster memory wont help if you do some video encoding. But for games, thats another story, like said above.

You'll get a increase in performance going with higher speed ram with low timing. However, is it worth the cost, are you willing to spend the money?

I have a 2.6 clocked at 3.0, fsb 213, ram 186 2-2-5-2 and it is a notch faster than the same setup at 3.25 fsb 250 ram 200 2.5-4-8-8 (default by SPD) when archiving/unpacking files, something that i do often. I dont encode video or mp3s so I dont need the extra cpu speed. So the answer to your question depends on what you do with your system. Also if your vid card is slow, or you play in low resolutions, you dont need to spend more money, would be useles.

My current video card is a ti 4600 but that will probably be upgraded with the next cycle of video cards. My hd is a wd 100 gb.
Really that question about the money is a good one.
Is the amount of difference i will see by going from the 2100 with bottomed out timings going to be worth the amount of money it will cost to say buy some good 3200? Especially if the cpu happens to have a 3.0 overclock max , will just pushing the fsb more be worth the cost of the better ram? I have the money to spend but if the jump is going to be minimal then I will just wait for my next upgrade.
I play plenty of games ,and at this point i never really mess around with encoding .
A game that runs at 60 fps right now cpu limited , will that be up to 70 fps with better mem? I understand that from game to game but I just meant something like a rough idea.
Thanks for the help.
