I recently bought a 4890 video card. For me it seems a bit noisy compaired to what i came from (8800GTS).

Would a GTX 275 be a quieter card than a 4890?

It seems different review sites have different opinions on how loud each card is.

thanks

you could always get an aftermarket cooler like arctic twin turbo

Yes... I believe so.

I have seen it posted that ATI at 80%, sounds like Nvidia at 100% fan speed.

I haven't had an ATI card myself, so get more input. ;)

That is an option, but if you have a better, slightly more expensive that's quiet (perhaps using a non-reference design, perhaps just a well designed card), wouldn't it be better to go with that rather than wasting money buying a cheaper card then paying for an aftermarket cooler? ;)

Point being, sure, you can use aftermarket coolers to make a card quiet, but you get better bang for your buck if you can just buy a quiet card to start with.
