I have been truoble shooting a relatives computer for about 3 hours now here is a summary of what has happened:
His comp kept locking/freezing when he plays halo so i updated drivers of all kinds and he got a new psu and still. so he decided to reformat but when the windows files were being copied he got a blue screen of death. so i flashed his bios and tried again and still the same problem.
His rig is a soyo kt600 v1.0, athlon 2100+, 1 GB ddr400, radeon 9700 AIW, but i have installed for now an old radeon pci graphics card PCI, i set the prinary video to pci on the bios, (before i flashed it)
So now that i got that stop error i did some research and concluded it was a compatibility issue between the cpu fsb and the ram he has. so i decided to take out his cpu and replace it, but i forgot i had no cpu that had a larger fsb anyway, soi put his back in but it was overhteating, so i added some thermal grease and it boots fine no errors. Only i have NO VIDEO. im stuck here i checked all multipliers fsb and jumper settings he has a 500w psu.
The speaker is on thats how i knew the cpu was overheating but after i put on the thermal grease and heatsink i did some tests and i noticed when i completely take out both 512 ram sticks i get no beep errors. This means the mobo isnt even posting, but is the mobo dying?? When i power it on all the light come up and all the fans and cpu fan seem normal but no video and no beep codes.
