Long story short.. HD failed. lost a nskornl.exe file... I don't have any of the cd's or manuals that came with it because it is at another location for the time being. I took the Dell Dim. 8400 to a computer store.. they fixed everything except for they could not find the audio drivers for my audio card on dell or anywhere for that matter and they sell dell computers........
I have my discs but they're at another location at the moment. If you go to the links.. you might be able to understand more.. or maybe not, I dunno, i'm a novice computer person.

I emailed dell and they gave me this file:

I replaced the config fle and the autoconfig like it told me in the instructions and then I ran install. A dos window poped up and did something really quick. I restarted and nothing was new.

Do I do something here? These are pictures of what is in the manager after i install waht dell has given me. I've already contacted dell more than a dozen times.

It seems to me that it's not even detecting the audio card... or is it? I don't know what to look for. Tonight I tried re-incerting it into the slot. The computer did not detect new hardware. I also reinstalled the config file and all that stuff.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Looks like it can see the card, but doesn't have the drivers. Are you sure its an SBLive card?

Find your service tag (It should be a bar code with 5 or six numbers and letters under it on the back of your case) and put it into the dell site, it should tell you the exact components in your machine.
