I have Sony G500 monitor with dual inputs, a BNC and a HD15. Since I've gotten it I've been running off of the HD15, but I'm going to be building another computer and want to use it with this monitor as well.

I got a BNC cable and hooked it up, yesterday while the computer was on I just unplugged the HD15 and put the BNC on, flipped the toggle and it was fine; it ran all day without a hitch. I turned it off for the night, and when I booted into Windows this morning I noticed a really nasty flagging with the picture, and checked the video properties, it was still set to 1600X1200 at 85Hz, but now all of the refresh rates were unlocked to 120Hz and the monitor was marked as default monitor. I tried different refresh rates up to 120, but the flagging continued like it was ignoring the settings and using a default refresh of 60Hz. Also, when booting Windows and going into Video Properties the screen would flash a bunch of artifacts that cleared up after less than a second.

I restarted a few times, changed the montior to a plug and play monitor, downloaded drivers from Sony's site and when Windows failed to detect a driver for my monitor in the .inf, forced it to the correct one, but to no avail. I shutdown the computer again and switch back to HD15 and everything is fine.

Why would the monitor be ignoring the driver when using the BNC input?

The computer can't detect the monitor over a BNC cable.
There's got to be a way to override the refresh rates for the screen w/ the monitor set to "Default Monitor". I haven't played with a BNC setup since my 17" died a few years ago, and even then my BNC cable had gotten flaky so I was using HD15 on my main rig and the BNC just went to my Linux box.
I'm not sure about ATI, but NVidia and Matrox have a refresh rate override in thier drivers which might do the trick. A 3rd party utility might also help.

That would explain it. I'll have to see what options I have with the ATI drivers. Thanks.
