No cd-rom boot for Abit AV8

Computer is all made now and has everybody but the hard drive. I just want to test the system out so I put in my Windows XP CD-ROM into my DVD-ROM drive and then the message says "Boot from CD: " and if I say "y", it loads from the CD for a few seconds and then does nothing. Anybody knows what is going on?
