Im building a new system and it will be a while before my case arrives. Anything i should be aware of?

What i know so far:
- more dust
- more hazard to outside factors (eg spill a drink)
- put motherboard on provided screws

Apart from that just put it all on a table, assemble and run, right?
 
Make sure you arent bending your motherboard (use all screws) and a antistatic mat sounds like a good idea. I also recommend you use duct tape to hold the pci/Pci-e Cards in place. Just dont use a lot, one strip in the middle from the cpu HS to the gpu is enough, and from the gpu holding bracket to a sound card if you got one.You may have trouble installing extension cards, I did the same thing once and i found out that the little thin metal bracket extends beyond the mobo screws.
 
See if you can find a motherboard tray from an old case that you can tear out and mount the motherboard to. That would be much safer than simply laying it down on a table, even on an anti-static mat. Aside from that, just make sure the PC is in a safe place where it won't get bumped and nothing will get knocked out of place.
 
my computer is currently on my desk . no problems. rnus cooler actually lol.
more of a noise maker now. but no problems :p

not much to add, but strongly suggest watching what you lay stuff on. That is why the mobo is on the box, nothing to short and a little height to allow for the I/O plates(s).

My current shuttle is not much better with hard-drives suspended outside hanging on sata cbles infront of the fans :cool: buggers still failed :(
 
I always wondered about putting a PC inside lots of little boxes as a novel case idea :) Hard drives in one, optical in another, PSU in a third, mobo/CPU/ram in a fourth and then the PCI cards in a box a little way away :)
