OK, I have two harddrives 1 60Gig WD and 1 6 Gig WD(for transferring large files to other computers). I boot off the 60gig it's master. The 6gig is just slave. But, when I take the 6gig out to transfer something my computer lags at IDE scan on POST. Then once past post it says omethign about DMI pool. Then it will just go to a black screen with a blinking cursor. Can't type anything, won't do anything. This strikes me as odd, I have no clue. I've had this setup on previous systems but for some reason it won't work on this PC. So I tried using a different smaller hd instead of the wd. Still won't boot. It's like the system depends on the 6gig WD. But I installed the OS on the 60gig and there are no OS files on the 6 just media and such. Any ideas here? Rig is sig.

I would try configuring the cmos on for the secondary device on the primary IDE channel to none instead of auto detect.

Otherwise, you may need to reset your bios.

as soon as i read the thread title, i knew how to fix it. the older WD drives have odd jumper settings, and the setting for a single drive is no jumper. thats right. take your jumper off the master drive, and boot. to install a slave, you might need to use the jumper again, im not sure. i know i did have a HD+CD on my secondary once, and the HD wouldnt work at all, unless the jumper was removed, but it was really old (like 5 gb)

Take off that jumper

Fallsincluded is dead on. I had this problem as well once. When your booting off a single western digital you should take the jumper out. But if your running two western digitals you need the master and slave jumpers.

"Fallsincluded is dead on."

I also knew exactly what to do. I saw thread title and WD.......
I only use WD hard drives.
