I'm wondering what in the world is the -5v rail used for?

My power supply does not have the -5v is it missing or broken? I noticed in the 20/24 adapter there is one cable missing??

Please advise.
 
Nothing much these days unless you have an MSI board with the onboard creative audio.

The missing pin is because it isn't there.
