Nice goin' my man, according to the stats page you have passed me :eek:. I tried to hold you off by borging even the toaster until the penryn quads hit the bricks and I get some OC'ing info on them, but no go. Oh well, there's always tomorrow :D

Welp, when Intel finally releases the q9450 to the unwashed masses there's one (or maybe 2x) with my name on it just begging me to OC' it, WC' it and use it or them for a 24/7 folder or two :p

Lucky you. I talked to IT at my office about borging our 12 training room computers. They sit idle at least 80% of the work day, and as far as I know, do not log out at the end of the day. That would be nice, but they are "thinking about it."

Lol, Sure they are thinking about it, i believe that they probably trying to figure out what harm this would cause--if any. Best thing to do is ask them if they have any computers that are just siting around not plugged in without a HDD if they say yes download the FAH Live Cd and runt the computers off that. I currently have 4 under my desk that are all working off the FAH live CD. I plan on adding more once I acquire a cheapo/free switch to add them onto the network with.


 
Hey shyboi...I see you're moving up the charts too and right on my rear view mirror. I just added a couple of lab machines and see if I can hold you off further!

It's like crack. I'm addicted to this stuff. Actually caught myself today refreshing the stats page thinking that it would update that second even when i'm not even close to halfway on any of the WUs my machines are on.

Thank God I work for some company where computers-a-plenty! I could deploy a silent-mandatory package to some obscure part of the company or maybe figure out how to distribute a pre-configured client with 10% cpu utilization...but it hasn't gotten to that point yet...

They keep me busy enough so it probably won't come to that. :D:D:D Besides, my small collection of lab computers will suffice that sit idle most of the evening. They're better off folding anyway.

Hey Rebel44, now that you've passed me and I've caught up to you, it won't be long before you're smoken' me again, for good I hope :rolleyes: (what a drag, you've got 2,000+ ppd on me :mad:)

I sincerely hope you get to borg those 50 boxen, just make absolutely sure you've got permission. I'm not trying to be "Suzi computer folding nerd" here, I'm just tryin' to warn you the higher uppers tend to have cows when you don't consult them first and get their permission :eek: (I know, you already knew that) Believe me, they know it's for a good cause, it's part of their job and they ain't dummies (most anyways :D) It's not easy being responsible for a bunch of computers and trying to keep up with a bunch of fledgling operators with self caused "dippy" problems.

Keep on keepin' on foldin :)

 
So besides eating up the cpu and power consumption, what are the negative aspects of folding at work or on work computers? Is there some kind of network traffic that's going to be noticeable? everything goes black as soon as someone else turns on their computer? What's the deal besides asking for explicit permission?
 
The main reason for the need of getting permission is mainly bandwidth since your corporation is paying for them. Security is another one and around here, they are very anal so I can't borg anything, only pre-production machines under my full control and bandwidth is alleviated in major part by the use of our wireless router which connect us to a separate internet connection.

 
eats a small amount of network traffic upon downloading and uplaoding the WU... but nothing that would be above normal web use.

 
I had to turn off all my rigs for almost 18 hours because of power outages:mad:

I expect decision about those borgs next week:cool:

I've got 4 machines at work that I'm using and they're all under my control. No one else uses them and sitting on a pre-production type ou.

Hey Xilikon, you know they gotta' be mucho careful about getting any "bugs" in the Canadian govs computers! :p
That sounds about right for an excuse if you're a politician :rolleyes: (ya know, any excuse in a storm or somethin' like that :D)

There's a couple concerns for office environments with folding... full CPU 24/7 produces heat, uses more electricity, increases fan noise, and adds to air conditioning bills as well. It's not "free" to fold, there's a cost associated, and it's a management decision whether to incur those costs for a worthy cause.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, I was just smackin' around with Xilikon because he's such a good folder on a team with many good folders and besides that, I think most everybody has heard the ole' expression "there's no free lunch" and "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".. :rolleyes:

Thanks.. I know what you mean but don't worry, I'm the one in charge of squashing bugs as a L3 tech :p The politicans is safe with me...
