i read in the mem FAQ that nForce 2 chipsets like a tRAS = 11??? what's the deal? should i change mine to 11?? i'm running at Asus a7n8x-e deluxe with geil PC3200 RAM. a 2500+ clocked to a 3200+... my current timings are 2.5-3-3-6

what do you guys think?

yes .. you should. Its hard to explain but lower isnt always better. tRAS essentially is the number of cycles that a request is open for. Its like reading a page of a book and putting the book down after a certain amount of time, if you only keep the book open for 5 seconds you will end up having to read the first few sentences all over again the next time you open it (in other words when the request is closed prematurealy the data is truncated and cycles are wasted in having to re strobe for that data).

here is something i made one night, when i was really freakin bored, so hope this help ya a bit

hdd =956 ---921

sisoft sandra 2k4 sp2

cpu multi media =21780 / 22912 ---21770 / 23148

nv benchmark contest
728.0565 ---716.3185

i've read that the nforce2 performs better w/ 11 tras, but i have never tried it myself.

It depends on what your other settings are, and the difference is usually very little difference unless you're running something that's already a bed setup.

From what I tried on a very bored night the best setting is the total of the other 3 added.
ie
2-6-2-2
2-8-3-3
2-10-4-4
3-7-2-2
3-9-3-3
3-11-4-4

If you run 2.5 cas, treat it like 3.

try 7 and see what you get.

interesting i just tried 2.5-3-3-11 and i got a slight improvement in sandra and PCmark.. i'm gonna try 2.5-3-3-9 though..

Who discovered this about Nforce 2 chipsets?

I just tried tRAS = 9 .. i saw more improvement by going with 11.. i read in the mem FAQ that setting tRAS to the sum of the others is what you do for mushkin RAM
