Ok, I want everyones opinion on this. What is the next upgrade that i should do? My Specs are in sig. I am thinking about going the p4way but i dont want to be upgrading again for about a year or so. i was also thinking about a lcd. Can anyone guide me in the right direction? Thanks

How much are you willing to spend?

I say to leave it alone for now, unless it's actually too slow to do some of the stuff you want to do; in which case, try just overclocking the thing to a 533 FSB.

yeah, save up for a new motherboard and processor (Athlon64 bit)

No need to upgrade your rig at this time! Your runnin a nice setup why upgrade now and waste ?

I plan on upgrading around summer/fall time.

Should be some cool new stuff out by then with dropped prices.

No need to upgrade his system? He has a 1.9 with pc2700, he desperately needs to upgrade his cpu. imho.

exactly, but what my QUESTION IS, should i wait to see what the new chips are offering before upgrading?

upgrade to athlon 64 bit that means new mother board and probaly ram so save up. my plan is to get the newest 64 when possable i have a 2600+ though so i have some time

|Enermax 430 watt PSU | Asus P4S8X | Pentium 4 1.8 @ 1.98ghz | Thermaltake Spark 7 HSF |512mb Ram (Samsung PC2700 + Corsair XMS 2700) @ 366mhz | 80gig Maxtor 8mb cache SATA | Liteon 16x DVD| Liteon 48x24x48x CD-RW | ATI Radeon 9700 Pro | SB Audigy | Logitech MX700 + Elite Keyboard(Corded) |

mobo -> Asus P4P800 Deluxe
cpu -> P4 3.0C (best speed/price imo)
hsf -> Zalman or Thermalright
dvd -> Plextor PX708A
ram -> 2x512mb Samsung
hd -> 200gb WD SATA

Hmm... that's kind of a new computer...

Just the DVD burner then.

I say you OC that CPU of yours to its max. Maybe sell that stick of Ram you got for some DDR400 or so.

When the new toys comes out, get the not so new toys for less. Like a 2.8C with a nice IC7-Max3 board.

Alex

get the best you could each time and keep reusing things. the athlon 64 is truly the fastest and in 2005 it will be the standard so we might as all give up on upgrading to any thing else but a 64 bit processer

If you wait now, you'll keep waiting. GAURANTEED~!

you'll wait until something brand new comes out, then when it does come out you'll wait because it's brand new and you want to make sure they get everything semi-worked out. then by that time something new will be coming out soon and you'll want to wait on that. it's a vicous cycle. buy now prices are decent and you'll be happy for a good while.

alright, well i have decided that im going to go with the p4 3.0c
now what mobo to get with that....

I actually upgraded recently just to hold me off until the 939 mobos and 64-bit accompanying cpus are released and also become relatively cheap.

The upgrade was basically a mobile AMD 2500+, but in your case it would be a 2500+ and AMD mobo. The default multiplier on the 2500 mobiles is 14 I believe. Simply set the FSB to 166, and you will be running 2.324 ghz within the bounds of your ram. This should be very do-able with a decent mobo and 1.75 vcore. For some reference, I am running these speeds @ 1.55 vcore.

Obviously, if your not comfortable overclocking, don't take this route. But keep in mind that AMD (or Intel or Motorola for that matter) do not really make 2500+'s or 3200+'s, they simply make a CPU as efficiently as they can, and find a stable speed it can run at. The 2500 Mobile is truly a 3200 - 3800 in hiding, but likely called a 2500 to hit that price point. I think it would be your best bet as far as a cheap cpu upgrade goes.
