Can anybody fill me on if this setup will work or be good for the money..and will it run next-gen games?

A64 3500 $267
Chaintech VNF4/Ultra $98
Leadtek 6800 PCI-E $300

I'm open for suggestions, just keep it close to the prices listed...no $350 for video card plz.

x800xl can be had for same price and will own the 6800nu.

Not to sure on the mobo you chose.

What power supply are you getting?

I'm not getting one i'm using my 400W one i already have. I don't wanna make the mistake of going ATI when UE3 comes out.. :( Then i'll lose twice...1. No DX9 cuz i got an FX then 2. No UE3 cuz I got an ATI...Until I see benchmarks on UE3 i'm sticking with Nvidia.

dude if it was an argument about a 6800gt vs a x800xl i would agree with you but there is no game in wich a 6800nu will even come close to an x800xl and yes that includes DOOM 3...you just cant compete with 16 pipelines

If you are looking towards UE3 than no video card you can buy today will really matter :D Cause if I remember correctly, even a 6800Ultra only gets like 20fps max in UE3, if you want to play UE3 well at high settings you will need an R520 or NV50.

That being said, I would get the X800XL over the 6800NU any day, even if you are planning on UE3.

OK guys i got a problem on my hands...Since I'll be getting a new mobo and proc for my birthday which are PCI-E...and the Video Card i have now is AGP...

Is there any such thing as a ~$100 AGP and PCIE mobo?

As a matter of faact there is such a thing as an AGP/PCI-e board, I have one. It cost just under 100 bucks at FRY'S, ignore the first two listings.

It is not going to give you the best performance, but it is a good interim board, that allows, AGP, PCI-e, DDR, and DDR2 support.

Edit: It will also allow on of the 120mm Zalmann colling solutions to fit and allow DDR2, since the DDR2 slots are closeset to the processor.

I do not know if you will be able to get an AMD board like that, but you can get the Intel board in this configuration

You are going to need a current spec psu (atx 2.0) to run a pcie system. Adapters suck.

Ok but i'm not sure the x800xl requires an outside power supply...besides whats wrong with getting the adapter for $5

x800xl pci-e does not use an additional power deal thing it is powered by the x16 bus

I used that exact same motherboard on a recent build for a customer and it is a great board. I was very pleased with it.

OK so this means i will or will not need an adapter?

Not the 6 pin PCIE adapter, the 24 pin atx adater. On earlier models this connector was on 20 pin and isn't complaint with the newer s939/pcie boards. Adapters tend to cause insability in higher end systems.

The x800xl has no need for a 6 pin adapter. (The BBA one, atleast)

Didn't see anything that mentioned an adapter on that page. Unless the motherboard company included it I wouldn't do it.

6 pin PCIE power connector/adapter = not needed with the majority of the x800XLs
20 to 24 pin adapter = not reccomended. Chances of it working well are not high
Good power supply with a 24 pin atx connector = teh win!

To buy:

1.A64 blah blah
2. Chaintech VNF4/Ultra
3. X800XL PCIE
4. Some ATX 2-2.03 PSU

put it all together straight outta the box and they will be compatible..correct?
