Anyone have a tentative date on the next generation video cards and if Nvidia has any plans to support 3+ screens on a single card with kepler?

I currently have 2x470's and I really want my 3 screens on fucking linux. The solution would seem to be goto an ATI card, but I know my 470's are 10-30% faster than a single 580 and the 580 is faster than any of the ATI cards so really I would be getting a major performance drop to go with whats out there.

I'm also running two 470's and looking forward to the new cards releasing, although my big driver is the vram limitations I am hitting more and more frequently gaming at 3150*1680. I have to imagine they worked the nv surround support into a single card for Keplar, that's been a bit of a black eye for them for a while now and it would be foolish to ignore it any further.

HD7850/7870: HD6950/6970 performance, much lower TDP, release February
HD7950/7970: 25% and 40% on top of GTX580, release April
GTX??? (28nm shrink of Fermi): Not sure if they'll do all the cards or just the lower-end ones, release February/March
GTX670/680 (Kepler): GTX590 performance on single GPU, release July

As for 3 display outs, that entirely depends on if nvidia bother with displayport this generation. I doubt you'll see any more than two RAMDACs on the cards still.

I dont know, I think the next gen ati cards are going to really fast, I am thinking almost as fast as dual 6970 crossfire. If it is the architecture anandtech was talking about. This cards are going to be fast just like kepler.

The fastest card of a given generation (i.e. the top-end geforce) has only ever equalled the dual-GPU of the previous generation, GTX480=GTX295, GTX280=9800GX2, and so on. The top-end radeon is usually one step behind. The HD5870 was the best of its time, but only 40% faster than the GTX285, and the HD4870 was only 40% faster than the 8800GTX before it. What makes you think this year will be much different? People were expecting the HD6970 to be a revolution on the same process that gave it a considerable lead over the HD5870, and that never happened.

you answered your own question at the end it is not the same old process. HD 6970 was improvement of the older architechture. ATi is overhauling the architecture, good or bad we wont find out until it is released, but it is not the same old afrchitecture. They couldn't implement it until 28nm so we got the 6970. No one really expected 6970 to blow everything out of water, I know I didn't.

I dont expect it to be 2-3x the performance, but my cards are 2 generations old. I am hoping with the next generation a single card solution will both be a) stronger than my dual cards since I am still ahead at the moment, and b) able to do (a) on a triple screen setup. I have a feeling that I will have to be on ATI, but I really have hopes that Nvidia will pull their heads out of their asses on this and give me a 670 or 680 with 3-4 screen support.

I only really want Nvidia because ATI linux support is abismal at best and if windows 8 locks you out from dual boot, I will be single booting debian and saying go fuck yourself microsuck.
 
Well no, but with the 250W TDP discussion I know a few people were led to thinking that it might exceed GTX580 performance, even only slightly, but that of course never happened, primarily because it wasn't a true 250W card, more like 190-210 in normal situations, with 250 as a peak. The new architecture shows promise but again, in the last 5 years we've never seen a generational leap bigger than 40% initially - unless AMD take the lead from the beginning and Kepler doesn't even run as fast (again, unlikely given historical evidence), there's no reason to believe it'll do more than 40% beyond the GTX580 this time. The highest possible increase that's likely to occur would be 80% (e.g. GTX580 vs GTX285) - but that seems unlikely given that this will be the first of a new generation, and not almost the last (as per 580).
