Why is this PSU mostly ignored over the AX1200 and the Seasonics and the like.

It's an FSP OEM, meaning good quality and has good wattage.

What is wrong with this PSU, and what would you reccomend for equivalent wattage/performance.

Overpriced for what you get. That's the long and short of why it's not recommended.

Seasonics and Corsair are usually reasonably priced, and Newegg Seasonic sales are hard to beat (X-series 650 for $80, 750 for $90, and 850 for $110).

Edit: The AX1200i isn't really recommended for the same reason. Overpriced for what you get.

Have you read the reviews? Apparently not as you think it's made by FSP. ;-)

Only the low wattage units are FSP. This one is Etasis. Usually Etasis makes a decent unit, but this one isn't that great and is very expensive.

You are incorrect about the OEM. It is not FSP-sourced. Etasis is the OEM for that particular PSU (as others have pointed out). However, eVGA made some poor decisions when it designed this PSU. As shipped, it is outperformed by PSUs that cost one-third less than this one. Worst of all is its $450 asking price (and nearly as high of a street price). As such, I simply cannot recommend such an expensive PSU that performs no better than those that cost less than half that much.

In other words, this PSU is a case of "poor design with expensive parts." (Though Etasis was not entirely to blame, in this case: It merely did what eVGA told the manufacturer to do. Similar to how CWT was told by Antec to do back in the mid-2000s when it manufactured Antec's Smart Power and early True Power PSUs: Antec specified a fan that didn't start spinning until the innards became a bit too hot, and it specified the use of Fuhjyyu capacitors that couldn't handle even moderately high temperatures.)
