Hey all I just built a computer for a friend and it is practically identical to mine below... The computer boots up fine and we can go into the BIOS and whatnot, but I am not quite sure what I did to install XP on mine. I remember it would then go through like a system check and stop. Then at the bottom of the screen it would say:

BOOT FROM ATAPI CD-ROM:

What do I do from here? When do I put in Windows XP cd? And isn't the boot device order supposed to be CD-ROM, floppy, hard drive? Thanks for help!

Alright, well we let his computer sit there with the Windows XP CD in it for awhile after it said BOOT FROM ATAPI CDROM and it sat on a black screen. After about 8 minutes it just randomly starts Windows setup, but then says it doesn't detect a hard drive? What now?

you need to have your CD in the drive from the moment you turn your comp on, actually just before the computer tries to boot from the CD Drive

to install XP the installation order needs to have CD first, the other two dont matter

you put the xp cd in and during bootup when it says boot from cd itll read the xp cd and start installation, you can probably take it from there.

Ok, new update... lol... I found out the jumper setting on his hard drive was set wrong and everything works great now... Thanks for help though guys! lol
