So right now I'm sitting about $500 shy of my $1400 new rig. As is, I have three huge checks coming in the next 2-4 months (delayed compensation for some work I did).

So for me, at surface level, the newegg preferred account is looking pretty good. **From what I can tell** zero fees and no interest payments assuming I pay everything off within a year (which I could probably do in 3 months much less a year)

But I'm feeling wary. It seems too good to be true. Am I missing some sort of hidden fee? From what I can tell as long as I pay it off by year end I wouldn't be charged anything and I could just close out the account/card.

Can anyone comment whose used it? Or point out something obvious that I'm missing?

The problem with these types of accounts is that if you don't happen to pay off the full balance within the time frame allotted you will be hit with all the back interest from before. As long as you make sure you pay it off before the allotted time runs out you should be fine.

You really only should buy what you have money for at the time. Use credit cards/"newegg preferred" accounts for emergencies/unexpected shit only.

Trust me, I have 7k in credit card debt and owe the government 3k. :)

Heheh I appreaciate the advice. Truthfully, I would never consider it except for the fact that I have a known reliable stream of income coming my way =)

As it stands I can't really do any editing on my computer which is a real hinderence to my workflow. I'm putting off a few planned shoots until I can get a PC that can handle photoshop/LR reliably

blah, stimulate the damn economy, buy shit! :p life on credit is the american way. it's all about cash flow. :D

I have been using my preferred account for over 4 years. I have been real happy with it. It's only useful if you buy $500 worth or more, good when you are buying lots of components, like putting together an entire PC.
