I currently have purchaced :

AMD Athlon XP Desktop 2500+ Socket A Model 8 CPU 333MHZ FSB Barton Retail Box

Abit NF7-S AMD Athlon XP DDR 400MHz PC3200 ATA133 ATX Socket A Motherboard With AGP 8X, USB 2.0, 6 Channel Audio, and Serial ATA 150

and was wondering what the best configuration for memory for overclocking this box would be. I am going to get Corsair but am undecided for the best type to get, the 1gb 4000 twinx is what I'm leaning more towards but would love to have the 4400 if possible please help!

I have also purchased :
Swiftech MCX462+T TEC - Socket A - for the heatsink.

Thanks!!

go with the 4000, there is no way you are gonna hit that high of FSB anyway, especially since your chip will prob be locked

you could even drop to twinX 3500 and save some more money, since that would be more than fine for overclocking (remember, the chip has a default FSB of 166, and pc3200 runs at 200FSB, so unless you think your gonna overclock that chip all the way to a 250fsb, the 4000 memory will be a waste of money, 3500 runs at 216fsb, and would be much better for you if you oc)

after all, if your at 250fsb (pc4000), then your chip is gonna be at 2.7ghz, which is one hell of an oc, and at 4400 speeds, the chip would be going at 3ghz, so more than likely, all that speed your paying for will be wasted, because you want to run at 1:1 ratio (sys FSB and ram FSB the same)

lastly, ram can be overclocked too (my pc2700 is going strong at 3200 specs), so the 3500 ram could prob be pushed to 3700 speeds, maybe even farther

You are much better off getting some good low latency PC3500. Odds are you will not get your FSB much over about 230. You are better off getting ram that can do tight timings.

i have PC3200 DDR 400 MHz DUAL KINGSTON RAM (1GB) & its plenty fast. Its a waste of money upgrading to something as high as 4000 or 4400. Also DDR2 is on the horizon.

uhm, considering the multiplier on the Desktop Barton 2500+'s is locked, you won't be getting that high of FSB out of it.

I've played with 3 new (last 4 months) Barton 2500+'s, all multi locked at 11, and none will go over 220 FSB. (2.42GHz)

So there's no point in buying anything over PC3500.

If I were you, I'd just buy decent PC3200.
