will this controller?

http://www.ontm.co.kr/image_jp/board_ASR-2100S.jpg
(adaptec 2100s)

work with these HDDs?

http://www.basoncomputer.com/QMXC36L461_O/item.aspx

also, the controller came with two cables. one that has 5 ports, one that 8. i plan to hook up two drives at this time to provide mirroring between one another. i would obviously want to do this on the 5 port cable, but this will leave 2 open ports. do i need to terminate those ports with this sort of setup? what do i use to do that?

thanks for bearing with my immature question :p

That card and drives will work all right. It doesn't matter which cable you use on the setup. Just make sure you use a active terminator on the end slot of the cable. Which slots you put the drives on doesn't matter to much. Just make sure the drives do not have the same SCSI ID set on them. Default settings are for ID1 most of the time.

there is a terminator at the END of the cable that i cant take off, so i assume THAT part of the sequence is taken care of

BUT

i dont need terminators on all the other open sockets too?

No, you only need termination at the ends of the bus (each end of the cable). One end of the cable already has a terminator built on, the other connects to your card which (usually) provides termination.

Double check your manual to make sure it is enabled. Generally it's a jumper setting and (usually) comes factory default to provide termination.

heh, "manual"

this controller sorta...um...fell off the truck...and into a boxed that shipped to my home :)
