newbie cooling question

I'm going to build a pentium 4 2.4c computer and want to overclock at (hopefully) 3.2 ghz, I'm a complete newbie, what cooling stuff will I need to acheive this? Will I need any other software? (I will be using an abit is-7 mobo)
Thanx in advance!

Your overclock not only depends on cooling, but on the other components in your system. Get a high quality (Antec, Enermax etc...) power supply no less than 450 watts. Your memory is also important. If you want the mem to run 1:1 (at the same FSB speed), you will need DDR500 memory.

As for cooling, I would suggest water cooling, but if thats not up your alley, I would go with a nice Thermalright heatsink like the SP-94 or the SP-948U with a decent 92mm fan. That should keep your processor cool.

Good Luck!

Sorry, I'm getting corsair ddr pc3200 ram, unless that won't work well for o/cing I had planned on getting a thermaltake 420w power supply, which was recommended to me, but I could easily go w/ 450. As far as water cooling goes, i've heard that's pretty expensive, is it? if not, I'll try it, but if it is I'll probably try going w/ a nice heatsink
thanx for the speedy reply!

The corsair mem is pretty good for overclocking, but to run 1:1, you will have to overclock the mem speed 66mhz at 3.2Ghz. Thats impossible for most memory. You will have to run a 5:4 fsb:mem divider to make it work. Not a big problem.

Yes, water cooling is expensive if you do it right. There are a lot of cheaper kits out there, but you sacrifice cooling if you get a substandard kit. For someone new to overclocking and computerbuilding in general, i would suggest the thermalright heatsinks and a nice 92mm fan.

Maybe you should consider the Antec True 480 insted of thermaltake. Its quieter and stays truer to voltage regulations. It may also be cheeper:D

Good luck!

Try the thermalright sp-94. It's cheaper than watercooling. And can still post some good numbers.
